Subaru’s lineup at this year’s Japan Mobility Show was about as wild as those of the rest of the participants. The company brought along a squared-off, battery-powered sports car and a six-motor aerial drone taxi. Both exist merely to preview the future of the brand, its sports direction and ‘the evolution of new mobility principles’.
Starting with the two-door one, it is called Sport Mobility and gives us a glimpse of the Japanese marque’s possible releases in the coming few years. It sports unique headlights, nearly rectangular wheel arches and a contrast body finish. The company claims that the entire EV is ‘designed around the driver’, but reveals few details. All we know is that the rear wheels can be steered. There is no comment on whether it might eventually reach production, either.
Air Mobility, on the other hand, is touted as a real VTOL planned for a future market release. The company says its vehicle division is already working together with Subaru Aerospace Company to produce a prototype capable of completing a demo flight. The Air Mobility is envisioned as an aerial taxi with six rotors, car-style headlights and taillights and a low-drag passenger pod.
