Las Vegas police gets 10 Tesla Cybertrucks as a present

The Las Vegas Police Department has taken delivery of ten Tesla Cybertruck patrol vehicles customized by Unplugged Performance. Such lavish purchases normally cause a backlash, but things are different this time around.

Specifically, this expansion of the police vehicle fleet was wholly funded by IT billionaire Benjamin Horowitz. He was also the one who commissioned Tesla specialist Unplugged Performance for the stylistic makeover.

The tuner actually ventured its own vision of a Cybertruck police cruiser a year ago, so it merely had to install the mods proposed back then. Every electric pickup ended up with blinking lights, sirens, loudspeakers, a livery and everything else that’s required of an emergency response car.

While they were at it, the tuners upgraded the brakes, the suspension and the front bumpers to be more robust and reliable. No pricing details were disclosed, but UP announced a same-looking bumper for $4,000 in 2023.

Commenting on the acquisition, the Las Vegas PD said it would not only be able to improve its public image but also to save on fuel and maintenance. Unofficial calculations suggest the department would be able to save more than $47,000 in these expenses over the next five years. As an added bonus, having Cybertrucks in the fleet might make police service more attractive to young people seeking employment.
