Zacoe redefines modern BMW M2 with a styling upgrade

The next generation of the RAV4 is finally here.
Aside from the base trim called Core, it will ship in a rugged edition known as Woodland (a.k.a. Adventure in other regions) and a styled-up GR Sport. Sales will start in late 2025 or early 2026 depending on where you live.
The entry-level RAV4 HEV uses a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine in tandem with either one or two electric motors. It leverages Toyota’s latest – fifth – generation of mild hybrid technology to deliver 226 PS (223 hp / 166 kW) to the front wheels in the North American spec. Opting for an additional rear motor raises the combined output to 236 PS (233 hp / 174 kW).
The RAV4 HEV will be available in Japan and the United States, while Europe will only get its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) counterpart. It largely uses the same components, but benefits from a bigger 22.7-kWh battery pack. Toyota also points out improved motors capable of driving the front axle with 268 PS (264 hp / 197 kW) or both axles with a combined 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW). This is the first time Europe gets the FWD version, by the way.
The AWD SUV is the fastest on the lineup with a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 5.8 seconds. If you opt for either the Woodland or the GR Sport package, you will also get a power boost to 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW). Once fully charged, the battery delivers 100 km (62 miles) of WLTP range under ideal conditions. Once depleted to 10%, it can bounce back to 80% in just 30 minutes. You will need a 50kW charger for that, though.
It is speculated that a non-electrified, ICE-only RAV4 is also underway to a number of markets. While it remains to be announced, we suppose it could arrive with a 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter engine mated to either an automatic transmission or a CVT.
