Toyota GR Yaris gets a 5x price bump with performance mods

The GR Yaris hot hatch has proven to the world that small displacement is no problem. With 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) at its disposal, it is a lively machine by all means, but tuners started wondering if it could do even more.

Technically speaking, the GR Corolla that came after it got 304 PS (300 hp / 224 kW) out of the same G16E-GTS three-cylinder unit. However, the owner of the car pictured here poured a whopping £130,000 into modifying it – the base car barely costs one-fourth of that amount. None of the investment went into luxury stuff, either – it was mostly absorbed by the powertrain.

In its current form, the beefed-up Yaris sends 537 PS (530 hp / 390 kW) to the wheels working off regular pump gas. The author of the project admits that he tried E85, but the wastegate proved too small for it to be efficient. With ethanol in the tank, the output currently drops to 463 PS (457 hp / 341 kW). That said, a couple further modifications can remedy that. In the end, the tuner reckons up to 670 PS (660 hp / 492 kW) should be attainable.

SRD Tuning, the company responsible for the build, still has a fair share of upgrades to install on the GR Yaris before it can be considered complete. These include a new sequential transmission, a better suspension, some extra body kit parts, and a widened track to fill out those fender flares properly.
