The Volvo EX30 is an affordable small battery SUV to be made in China

Volvo will soon design an all-electric crossover SUV named the EX30, which will become its most affordable model and target younger audiences.

The corresponding statement was made by CEO Jim Rowan in his interview to Automotive News. He added that the car will be made in China for the international market.

According to Rowan, the EX30 will enable Volvo to draw in a new target audience: the youngest car drivers aged 18 and older. The car will be available on a subscription rent basis. The shortest rent term will be as small as three months, and concluding the contract will be as easy as filling out a few forms online.

The technical parameters remain to be revealed, but it is official that the EX30 will get multiple battery options. Judging by the localization of production, the model will be based on a Geely platform. It will be revealed sometime in 2023, with no further specifics as to the date.

The pricing is likewise unknown, but Volvo says the EX30 will be cheaper than the company’s current cheapest EV, the XC40 Recharge. The latter has just received a facelift alongside its coupe-like twin, the C40, ending up with new electric equipment (you can find both cars in the gallery below).
