China’s Alphard lookalike presents cabin

Great Wall brand Wey has shared the first official interior photos of its first-ever minivan, Gaoshan. The company had only been making SUVs and crossovers before, but its latest creation reminds us of the Toyota Alphard in terms of exterior styling and comfort features. It runs on hybrid power and is set to go on sale in China later this year.

The exterior evokes associations with the Toyota Alphard thanks to a similar-looking front fascia. The giant radiator grille with vertical bars and integrated headlights in particular looks copied from the Japanese van. The Chinese vehicle is a bit larger at 5,045 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,900 mm tall and has 3,085 mm between the axles. Its trunk space maxes out at 1,725 liters with the rear seats folded down.

In its base spec, the Gaoshan is a seven-seater with two separate seats in the second row. Aside from the typical creature comforts that such seats usually come with, they will benefit from an in-built 10-point massage system and a special button to unfold them into beds and back.

Another highlight comes in the form of a fridge, which is included in the standard spec, fits up to 14 bottles of drinks and can keep them cool over the next 24 hours after the engine switches off.

Like Wey’s other vehicles, the Gaoshan MPV will be powered by a hybrid system including a 1.5-liter engine and two electric motors. The petrol engine alone will produce 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW), while the motor specs will be announced later. A 38-kWh battery on board will yield up to 150 km (93 miles) of range per charge.
