The SAIC-GM-Wuling joint enterprise has just posted some photos of an estate car based on its existing Starlight sedan. According to pcauto.com.cn, the company hasn’t revealed yet whether it would actually go into production, but it could make a viable alternative to the more expensive wagons on the Chinese market.
The Wuling Starlight (known in China as the Xingguang) went on sale in late 2023. The sedan is 4,835 mm long with 2.8 meters of wheelbase and starts from 88,800 Yuan. The company reported 18,300 sales in the first month.
Wuling never specified any numbers for the Starlight Wagon, but we suppose that it may inherit its entire platform from the sedan. This includes a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 106 PS (105 hp / 78 kW) and an electric motor adding another 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW). There are also two battery sizes – 9.5 and 20.5 kilowatt-hours. Their respective WLTP ranges amount to 50 and 105 km (31 and 65 miles) on electricity alone. The maximum hybrid range is estimated at 1,100 km (683 miles).
