China puts names on its smartest vehicles

The China-based subsidiary of J.D. Power has published its fourth annual rating of car manufacturers selling the most ‘intelligent’ vehicles on the country’s market.

International companies Mercedes-Benz, Lincoln and BMW have preserved their leadership in the premium ICE car segment, coming ahead of China’s own carmakers. Things looked differently in the mass-market ICE segment, however, which was dominated by local companies and domestic-foreign joint enterprises last year. Lynk & Co, Tank, and GAC Trumpchi took the lead in the affordable smart car market.

In the premium EV segment, Nio took the lead and BMW followed it as a very distant second. Li Auto and Xpeng topped the mass-market EV ranking followed by Geely’s Zeekr sub-brand. The same brands led the overall smart EV rating, followed by Nio, Aito and Tesla.
