912-PS, low-mileage Ford Mustang on sale for a fraction of the cost

Bring a Trailer is currently holding an auction for a rare and barely used 1968 Ford Mustang restomod built by Classic Recreations. The renowned tuning company built it to the extreme GT500CR spec, while SpeedKore Performance threw in an all-carbon body. For something that looks and drives like a supercar, it’s a shame it hasn’t seen the road much at all.

Older Mustangs can be all over the place with regards to power, but this one relies on a humongous 7.9-liter, supercharged V8 for propulsion. Linked with a Tremec six-speed manual, it slams its nine-inch rear end with 912 PS (900 hp / 671 kW). Low coilover-based suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and Wilwood performance brakes with red calipers ensure it handles like a modern super muscle on the road.

Classic Recreations lists its GT500CR build from U.S. $700,000 before options. This example has only 673 kilometers (418 miles) on the odometer, so you’d think it would sell close to that amount. You’d be naïve to think that, though. Someone else’s project car is almost never a viable investment. With a day left on the auction clock, the bidding is still at $155,000.

Perhaps the owner would have been better off actually driving this beast than letting it gather dust.
