Bloodhound LSR jet car hits 333 mph

The bullet-shaped experimental rocket car just ran its next test in the Kalahari Desert, Africa. Powered by a couple jet engines assisted by a rocket engine for 135,000 total horsepower (100,000 kW), the 13.5-meter (44.3-ft) long ride hit 537 km/h (333 mph) in a straight line.

Getting from 80 to 480 kilometers per hour (50 – 300 mph) took it thirteen seconds flat. As for the maximum acceleration, it was not the main parameter the car was assessed for. The research team mainly wanted to evaluate its aerodynamics and stability during initial acceleration, more so than the top speed.

Nonetheless, the reason the Blodhound LSR exists in the first place is to set a new world record as the fastest-going land vehicle in history. The development team will attempt to get it to at least 800 miles per hour (1,287 km/h), but the ultimate goal is to hit 1,000 mph (1,610 km/h).
