An ItalDesign Aztec, one out of just eighteen such vehicles, is up for grabs in Japan with 877 km (545 miles) under its belt and a 68.5 million Yen starting price.
The Italian coachbuilder created the model 33 years ago to celebrate its 20th birthday. The car sports a very smoothly flowing body, as well as two separate cabins for the drive and the passenger. Those who didn’t feel like communicating over phone sitting less than a meter apart could opt for a version called Aspid, which had a more conventional glass roof.
Curiously enough, the interior sports what looks like two steering wheels. In reality, the passenger’s wheel is actually just a convenient handhold with a console built in for access to some in-car functions. The driver had to tell the passenger the password to unlock these controls. Satellite navigation was also present, despite the age of the car.
Power comes from a 2.2-liter Audi five-cylinder rated at 250 PS (247 hp / 184 kW). A five-speed manual transmission taken from a Lancia Delta Integrale drives all four wheels for a top speed of 241 km/h (150 miles per hour).
ItalDesign had intended to make 50 such cars, but ended up only making 18. A similar vehicle with 414 km (257 miles) on the counter fetched $165,000 at an auction in the USA last February.
