AC Cobra GT Roadster underway to the market this spring

AC Cars will soon introduce a new version of its legendary Cobra sports car (see video). Dubbed the GT, it will debut with up to 663 PS (654 hp / 488 kW) of power and offer next-generation levels of comfort and tech, the manufacturer says.

From what little can be seen in the teasers, it seems like a typical Cobra roadster, although AC Cars promises a ‘revolution’ in the 61-year history of the model. It is already official that the roof will be implemented as a removable hardtop.

In its top form, the car will come driven by a 5.0-liter Ford Coyote V8 supercharged to the abovementioned 663 PS and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers will be able to choose between six-speed manual and ten-speed automatic for the transmission, but the drive will stay on the rear axle.

The aluminum space-frame has been designed from scratch and overlaid with carbon-fiber bodywork, resulting in a curb weight under 1.5 metric tons (3,300 lbs). The company expects the roadster to go 0-60 mph (0-96.6 km/h) in 3.6 seconds.

The trim specification mentions an air conditioner, power windows and a modern infotainment system. All pricing remains to be revealed, but you are welcome to leave a pre-order right now, AC Cars says adding that there will be ‘vast customization opportunities.’
