Acura ZDX to come back in 2024 as the marque’s first EV

Acura has used the ZDX nameplate before, and it is now going to reuse it on its very first fully electric car scheduled for market launch in 2024. A sported-up Type S version is also in the plans.

Acura says the ZDX will be powered by the General Motors Ultium architecture. The drivetrain and battery specifics remain undisclosed, but we know from GM that the platform supports battery packs ranging from 50 to 200 kilowatt-hours.

There are still no images of this new ZDX EV – not even teasers – but Acura’s Precision EV Concept featured in the gallery below should come pretty close. Aside from being the company’s official design study for all future cars, it has a funny feature tied to its LED ambient lighting. When you drive the car yourself, the interior lights up in red, but if you surrender the controls to the autopilot hardware on board, it starts glowing blue.
