Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro’s failed Goodwood debut traced back to a $7 part

As you may remember, Aston Martin crashed the Goodwood party with the track-ready AMR Pro supercar last weekend. It was disqualified shortly afterwards.

Nothing boded ill when the Valkyrie AMR Pro began its first hill climb, until it suddenly came to a standstill in the middle of the track. It got the red flag for that and was towed away. Here is what Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin Chairman of the Board, had to say regarding the incident.

Apparently, a small component broke down unexpectedly in the electrical wiring of the car, leading to a general failure of its systems. Stroll emphasized that nothing like it had ever happened during tests. He added that the faulty part cost mere $7 – although we can imagine it costing a few orders of magnitude more than that in negative media coverage.

On a brighter note, it certainly is good that the company was able to identify the issue before the deliveries began. Stroll assured us that the incident would not cause a delay in the shipment schedule of the AMR Pro, which is set to ship from September 2021.

Powering the track-focused Valkyrie is a 6.5-liter V12 rated at 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 746 kW).
