Aston Martin has taken the Valkyrie AMR-LMH – its latest endurance racer with hypercar stats – out for a test lap run. The short official video lets you enjoy the sound of the 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 built by Cosworth.
The racecar is being designed to compete in the top echelons of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the U.S.-based IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The AMR_LMH utilizes many of the same components as the street-legal Valkyrie, but wears a new aero kit and ditches electric motors in favor of a non-turbo engine. Its output goes down from more than a thousand hp to the FIA-compliant 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW).
In both WEC and IMSA series, the newcomer will be the world’s only racer based on a production car. It will also be the only one competing with a V12 under the hood and not a V6 or V8 like the rest of the bunch. Aston Martin plans to begin homologation this fall and wrap it up in time for the next year’s season. It is unclear at this time whether it will be completed in time for the IMSA Detroit stage in January 2025, but it will definitely take part in the 24 Hours of the Le Mans.
