Italdesign prepares a modern take on the 1973 Asso di Picche Concept

The famous Italian coachbuilder and tuner Italdesign has been working on a contemporary version of its Asso di Picche concept car first sketched up in the distant year 1973. It only exists in the form of 3D renderings right now and is called ‘Asso di Picche in Movimento’, which can be translated as ‘Ace of Spades in Motion’.

The original car was ordered by coachbuilding company Karmann 50 years ago based on the mass-produced Audi 80 saloon. Italdesign drew inspiration from a large number of iconic vehicles for the project, including Lancia Delta, Lotus Esprit and Volkswagen Scirocco. However, the finished car never went into production and remained a one-off.

Its new version revealed today resembles the original in a number of aspects, but the giant glass dome essentially results in a single-space body – a major detour from the original design. Another interesting feature can be found inside: the ultra-thin display on the dash panel can be rolled up and tucked away when not in use.
