Carmaker Audi has integrated the first video application into its multimedia system. Later this summer, owners of certain Audi cars will be able to install the YouTube app and watch videos – although only when the car is parked. Other VW Group brands, including Bentley and Porsche, will add support later on.
A smartphone is not required for the download, because the Audi MMI infotainment system has its own app store where the YouTube app will become available soon. Volkswagen first mentioned developing it this spring.
The in-car app will offer the same feature set as in gadgets, but will only be usable when the car remains still. Audi says drivers who often have to wait for their vehicle to refill or recharge will know to appreciate it.
YouTube will be available for the latest Audi A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, e-tron GT and Q8 e-tron models. The company promises to add more apps later, such as Spotify, TikTok and Yelp.
