Audi has decided to reconsider its EV strategy moving forward, Bloomberg reports quoting company CEO Gernot Döllner. The recent decline of the electric car market calls for a bigger emphasis on ICE and hybrid powertrains, he said.
He added that focusing on ICE cars in this difficult transitory period will guarantee Audi a much-needed stable standing on its current markets and protect it from dangers.
This is not to say that the Ingolstadt automaker slashes all its EV plans; far from it. However, according to Döllner, it is already clear that the global car market will take a while longer to get used to the idea of battery cars. He added that more and more customers appreciate EVs, but the progress is slow and gradual.
A few years ago, the company said it planned to make all of its newly released cars EVs starting from 2026. Until then, it had planned to design and introduce two dozen new models, half of them electric. With the market in its current state, however, this strategy will also need to be revised. Döllner did not provide any further details.
