BMW has published the detailed specs of the latest 5-Series sedan lineup running on plug-in hybrid power. Sales are set to begin in November starting from €65,300.
The entry-level BMW 530e uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor built into the eight-speed automatic transmission. The combined output sums up to 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. The car sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph).
The more powerful BMW 550e xDrive gets a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine and an electric motor rated at 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW). Together, they deliver 489 PS (482 hp / 360 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque to all four wheels. The sedan concludes its standard sprint in 4.3 seconds and doesn’t hit its electronic speed ceiling until 250 km/h (155 mph).
Both models use a battery pack with 19.4 kWh of useful capacity. The BMW 530e covers up to 103 km (64 miles) in all-electric mode, and the 550e covers only 90 km (56 miles) due to AWD.
