2vs2 EV Drag Race: China vs. Germany

Carwow has posted another exciting drag race video on YouTube, taking two China-made electric cars on the drag strip to race against their rivals from Germany. HiPhi’s recently introduced Z and X models for Europe went up against a Porsche Taycan and a BMW iX.

The HiPhi Z has 672 PS (663 hp / 494 kW) at its disposal and the X has 598 PS (590 hp / 440 kW). The Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is capped at the same 598 PS in its UK version, while the BMW iX M60 inches out a small advantage with 619 PS (611 hp / 455 kW).

All four EVs have two motors each, but that’s where the similarities end. For instance, the BMW iX is the undisputed leader in the torque department with 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) heading to the wheels, but it is also the heaviest ride of them all with 2,584 kilos (5,700 pounds).

After the test, Carwow had to conclude that different countries arrange priorities differently when designing EVs. China goes for the fastest possible launch times, while Germany bets on acceleration gain in mid-drive.
