BMW 8-Series bows out without a successor in sight

Rumors sprang up earlier this week that BMW had pulled all 8-Series cars from the web-based configurator applets in Europe and the USA. The Bavarian company has now officially confirmed that the 8-Series Coupe, Gran Coupe and Cabrio reached the end of their market life.

According to the automaker as cited by CarBuzz, the end of production occurred on schedule. The current 8-Series stepped on the assembly line in 2018 and received a facelift in 2022, so it was already quite mature. Having said that, sales have been lukewarm over the past few years, with BMW reporting fewer than 5,000 annual units sold on multiple occasions. This also sounds like a major contributing factor to us.

Before stopping the lines, BMW announced the M850i Edition M Heritage. This purely cosmetic special edition was slated for delivery in early 2026 limited to 500 production units. Since no 8-Series seems to be available for purchase right now, it must have been sold out.

There’s still no word on any successor to the 8-Series. The automaker’s impending Neue Klasse vehicle lineup will likely offer a replacement of sorts, but it’s too early for details.
