Bugatti Mistral is the French marque’s last W16 hypercar

Bugatti is running full steam towards electrification, and this implies having to find the right words to say goodbye to the company’s eight-liter, W-shaped, sixteen-cylinder monster of an engine. The automaker’s answer is a Chiron-based roadster named Mistral.

The Mistral is not just a Chiron with its roof chopped off, though – the bodywork is all new and inspired by the Type 57 Grand Raid old-timer harking back to the distant year 1934. The V-shaped windshield, the air vents behind the driver and the passenger and the exterior finish selection all pay homage to that model.

The headlamps resemble those of the modern Divo and La Voiture Noire models. According to the design team, the quad-section headlamps symbolize quad turbos and AWD.

Powering the ride is the abovementioned W16 dialed up to 1,600 metric horsepower (1,578 hp / 1,177 kW) and 1,600 Newton-meters of torque (1,180 pound-feet). The company hinted that the Mistral would soon attempt to set an absolute speed record among roadsters. This would not be a PR move, either, since the entire planned production batch of 99 units has already been sold out starting from €5,000,000.
