Option your 2.2MW Yangwang U9 Xtreme with an $11.4k green finish

Having successfully tested its all-electric supercar Yangwang U9 Xtreme at the Nürburgring and Automotive Testing Grounds Papenburg, Chinese automotive concern BYD has announced a limited edition in celebration of the records.

Known as “Extreme Forest”, it will be capped at just 30 production units. Like the stock Yangwang U9 Xtreme, it will come equipped with four e-motors jointly making 3,019 metric horsepower (2,978 hp / 2,220 kW). Outfitted like this, the EV can attain a manufacturer-claimed top speed of 500 km/h (310 miles per hour) thanks to special tires. It can also take advantage of a 1200-volt platform to replenish most of the charge within minutes.

The Extreme Forest finish option adds around $11,400 to the total and gets you a green car with a matching cabin. The company claims the name references two things at once – the Christian New Year, which is linked to the imagery of the Christmas tree, and Green Hell, one of the alternate names of the Nürburgring. Situated in a forest with lots of sharp corners and zero visibility around some of them, the German racetrack has claimed numerous lives to date.

It remains unknown just how much the U9 Xtreme will cost on its own. The “regular” Yangwang U9, which is capped at “just” 1,306 PS (1,288 hp / 960 kW), starts from 1.8 million Chinese Yuan, or roughly $256,000. It’s the only version currently on sale.

Earlier this year, the U9 Xtreme completed the North Loop in 6 minutes 59.157 seconds, earning it the title of the fastest production EV there. The same EV later hit 496.22 km/h (308.3 mph) on the Papenburg track, becoming the fastest production vehicle ever tested there.
