Chinese supercar breaks a sales record going for nearly $3 million

Several of the 30 BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme supercars planned for production have found buyers during the recently concluded Beijing Auto Show, reports BYD PR executive Li Yunfei.

One of the buyers was Nick Politis, a businessman and a billionaire from Australia, who handed over 2,920,000 USD for what is now recognized as China’s most expensive passenger car in history. The identities of the other buyers weren’t disclosed, but the company said the deliveries would begin in early 2027.

The all-electric U9 Xtreme coupe scored the title of the world’s fastest-going EV last fall when it hit 496.22 km/h (308.3 mph) on the Papenburg Test Track in Germany. Armed with a multi-motor setup capable of 3,019 PS (2,978 hp / 2,220 kW), the car also makes use of a sophisticated intelligent suspension system known as the DiSus-X, as well as top-end carbon-ceramic brakes.

If you can’t afford one of the 30 exclusive supercars from China, you may settle for a “normal” Yangwang U9 model packing “mere” 1,306 PS (1,288 hp / 960 kW). This one costs a whole order of magnitude less than its Xtreme counterpart, starting at the equivalent of 263,000 USD.
