Omoda’s first electric SUV revealed ahead of Q4 launch

Chinese automaker Omoda has revealed the details concerning its first electric crossover, the C5 EV. The model is set to go on sale in late 2023.

Although the SUV is based on the same platform as the non-electric C5 model, it sports a few major design differences. One of these is a missing radiator grille, which has been replaced with a solid stub. The front bumper with a large air intake is also new, as are the headlights. A large Omoda badge resides on the chromed hood lip, and the wheels sport what the manufacturer calls a special low-drag design.

The media in China tend to agree that the C5 EV will most likely go on sale with a single e-motor mounted on the rear axle. It is expected to produce 224 PS (221 hp / 165 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. A 61-kWh battery should give it around 450 km (280 miles) of WLTP range. Accelerating from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) is going to take 7.8 seconds or close. This being said, the specs are extrapolated from the automaker’s other existing models and not yet official.
