Citroen My Ami Buggy goes out of sale within 17 minutes

If you took your time contemplating whether you really needed the all-electric Citroen My Ami Buggy, don’t bother: all 50 units have been sold out within 17 minutes 28 seconds from launch.

Buying one was only possible online, and the manufacturer says someone managed to fill out all the forms and leave the order in just 2 minutes 53 seconds. Quite a few people remained frustrated, too: the company said nearly 1,800 users were online trying to order the car, out of which only 50 got what they came for.

Compared to the standard Ami supermini, the Buggy has metallic tube-frame doors, a soft top and a rugged-looking body kit, as well as other design differences. It rides on new wheels and boasts redesigned bumpers; opening a door reveals a unique nameplate.

Things stay stock under the hood, which implies a feeble electric motor rated for 8 PS (8 hp / 6 kW). The battery lasts 70 km (43.5 miles) at most.

The standard Citroen Ami starts from €7,390 in France before any incentives. The Buggy commands a premium that remains to be revealed.
