Daihatsu has attended the Gaikindo show in Indonesia with a light commercial electric van concept named Vision-F. The base vehicle was a gas-powered Gran Max van that has been around for 16 years now, but the company took care to refresh it.
The Vision-F was co-designed with Astra Daihatsu Motor, the car manufacturer’s subsidiary in Indonesia. Its exterior changed beyond all recognition, although the proportions remain more or less the same. The radiator grille was swapped for a backlit faux grille capable of displaying custom messages, like its own name. The thin connecting stripes between the headlights and taillights are also actual mini-displays, rather than simple LEDs.
Juxtaposed against the main silver color, the black a-pillars help visually connect the windshield with the side windows. Sliding power doors provide access to the trunk.
Inside, the front panel is minimalistic and has a large touchscreen in the middle providing access to most in-car functions. A small virtual dash can be seen behind a squared-off steering wheel, and the middle armrest houses a touch-based transmission selector. The passenger seat back can be folded to create a flat tabletop with cup holders.
The technical parameters were omitted. The company said it came up with this concept to explore the electrification opportunities of light commercial transports on the Indonesian market.
