Fiat Doblo MPV goes all-electric in Europe

Fiat has unveiled the next-gen Doblo minivan in its passenger (MPV) and commercial (LCV) variants. The latter got to keep its combustion engine, while the former lost it in favor of a completely electric powertrain.

In essence, the new Doblo is analogous to the Citroen Berlingo, Opel Combo and Toyota ProAce. Like these three models, the commercial van comes it two versions 4.4 and 4.75 meters long. You can get it with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine rated at 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW) or a 1.5-liter diesel one capable of either 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW) or 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW). The entry-level diesel is strictly manual, while the more powerful version offers you a choice between six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic.

As for the passenger-carrying e-Doblo, it comes equipped with a single electric motor good for 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW). A 50-kWh traction battery on board gives it up to 280 kilometers (174 miles) of driving range. You can accelerate to a top speed of 130 km/h (81 mph) and top up the battery from zero to 80% full in half an hour at most.

The important thing to note is that the cargo-transporting Doblo LCV is also available with this electric powertrain in Europe.

The production will take place at the Stellantic Group factory in Spain, where other vehicles based on the same platform are being made.
