Hoonigan team’s iconic Escort traded upwards of $200k right now

Sale of the late Ken Block’s car collection continues with a highly desirable 48-year-old Ford Escort that starred in the Gymkhana series. With four days left on the Bring a Trailer clock, the bidding has already reached $215,000.

According to the listing, Block acquired this car in 2008 – three decades after its production. Intriguingly, he went for a right-hand-drive example for some reason. As they prepped the car for Gymkhana, Quick Motorsport moved the wheel to the left side, upgraded the chassis and rebuilt the body with Pandem aerodynamic parts. Thanks to the numerous carbon and glass-fiber add-ons, the coupe ended up weighing as little as 906 kilograms (1,997 pounds).

A purpose-built 2.5-liter Millington Diamond four-cylinder engine slotted in under the hood, rated at 333 PS (328 hp / 245 kW) and 334 Nm (246 lb-ft) of torque when new. Multiple suspension and handling upgrades were implemented to make the coupe drivable in the Gymkhana Grid series, including remote-reservoir shocks and an adjustable sway bar.

Last but not least, the interior ended up with Recaro bucket seats, a custom dashboard and gear shifter, and carbon-fiber door cards bearing Block’s autograph.

Ken Block, the legendary rally and stunt driver, passed away in a snowmobile accident on January 2, 2023. His team, Hoonigan Racing, proceeded to undergo a major restructuring, applied for insolvency, and currently resides under corporate ownership.
