EU-spec Ford Explorer Electric gains power and range

Ford Europe has launched a refreshed version of its Explorer EV, making it simultaneously faster off the line and more viable for long trips.

In its most basic form, the Explorer Electric now comes equipped with a 58-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack rated at 444 km (276 miles) per charge. That’s 66 km (41 miles) better than its predecessor from 2023 could do.

In addition to that, the rear-axle motor now produces 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) instead of 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW). The torque stays capped at 350 Nm (258 lb-ft), but it’s still enough to take the bulky crossover from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in eight seconds flat. The original version did an 8.7-second sprint.

Elsewhere, the new Explorer EV features the latest infotainment software and comes with the ability to power external appliances from the traction battery. The ADAS package now has traffic-light-aware cruise control, self-parking and drowsiness monitoring.

Prices in Europe start from €39,900.
