Ford recalls nearly 4.5 million vehicles over accident concerns

As many as 4,380,609 SUVs, pickup trucks and vans are being recalled in the United States for a software update aimed at fixing a crucial trailer assist bug.

According to the NHTSA, all affected vehicles may experience their trailer lights randomly turning off or failing to turn on. This includes the taillights and the turn indicators. Most F-Series trucks are affected including the F-150, as well the Ranger and the Maverick, the Expedition SUV and the e-Transit van. Lincoln Navigator owners will also have to pay a visit to a dealership. Ford specifies that all affected examples were made from 2022 to 2026, meaning even the most recent batches are faulty.

The company insists that it’s unaware of any traffic incidents linked to this issue, but admits having received over 400 complaints about the lights not working as normal. Some owners even had their vehicles serviced under warranty, to no effect.
