Ford Evos gets rebadged as Mondeo Sport for China

Ford has expanded its popular Mondeo lineup in China with a new version called Sport. In reality, it’s a mildly facelifted coupe-like Evos SUV rebranded as a Mondeo to help with the sales. It’s a bit more premium than the normal Evos and priced accordingly.

Ford produces the latest-generation Mondeo and Evos for the Chinese market using the same platform, but different powertrains. The rebadged Evos used to come equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 238 PS (235 hp / 175 kW). The sedan was available with the same powertrain, plus a hybrid variant with an added e-motor for 308 PS (304 hp / 227 kW) in total.

In contrast, the new “Mondeo Sport” version isn’t available with the 2.0T mentioned above. It is only available as a hybrid with 915 km (568 miles) of range. The transmission is a CVT, and the drive is on the front axle with no further options.

Despite being several years old, the car still looks much like the Evos on the inside, layout and all. The only notable difference is orange trim all around. Despite this light refresh, it ended up with a sizable price bump after the badge change. While the Evos SUV started from 199,800 Yuan before incentives, the “Mondeo Sport” starts from 209,800.

The production will take place at the Ford-Changan joint enterprise in China. Preorders will open a few days.
