Reports: Genesis EV to have less power than Kia EV6

According to Korean Car Blog citing data allegedly found in a certification center database, the first all-electric Genesis car will ship with three different powertrains, but none as powerful as the one already launched by Hyundai/Kia.

The base spec of the car, which is provisionally known as GV60, will purportedly offer a single motor rated at 229 PS (226 hp / 168 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The Kia EV6 has the same powertrain option, but it is not listed as entry-level. The lowest spec produces 180 PS (177 hp / 132 kW).

A middle-ground variant will pack two motors and 325 PS (321 hp / 239 kW). Its range remains to be announced, but the analogous Kia has 77.4 kilowatt-hours of power storage. Finally, the range-topping Genesis EV6 will reportedly get dual motors rated at 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) each.

This would put it well below the top-spec Kia EV6 GT with its 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque. The GT can sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.5 seconds.

Could it be true that Genesis would offer us less performance than Kia, despite being a premium brand? We cannot say for sure right now. It looks possible that the carmaker wants to prioritize comfort and ultra-modern features over raw performance, especially in the UI/UX department. A recently spied GV60 had two large displays and an intriguing spherical gear selector.
