Honda Performance Development has come up with a special racecar series derived from the road-legal Civic Type R. Only licensed racing car drivers can purchase one.
HPD already has two Civic racecars on the lineup for the U.S. touring series, and the upcoming Type R TC will occupy the middle position between them. The scope of modifications is impressive and includes a Borla downpipe, Bilstein and Eibach suspension components, 350mm (14”) disc brakes with four-piston calipers, 18-inch wheels, a Cusco differential gear, a purpose-built exhaust system, and a roll cage.
The stock two-liter turbocharged engine boasts an ECU remap along with a better cooling system, and the six-speed manual transmission has been tweaked for racetrack use. The car comes with a performance boost to between 270 and 330 hp (200 – 245 kW; specific number determined by the relevant racing regulations).
Its creators claim that the Civic Type R TC is the perfect track projectile for everyone who cannot get enough acceleration out of their standard Type R.
The Type R series is currently manufactured in Great Britain and converted for track in Austin, Texas, USA. At $89,900, the minimum price tag is quite impressive, but building a Type R racecar against your own custom specification would be even more expensive than that. Furthermore, the range-topping Civic TCR currently retails starting from $172,000.
