Honda Civic Hybrid & Type R announced for 2022

Honda has made an important reveal: the Civic family will be getting a part-electric and a Type R versions next year.

The former will come based on the manufacturer’s proprietary powertrain named e:HEV, but its specifications remain to be announced. The latter is even more of a dark horse, so its parameters are left open to guess. If we were to try that, we’d say the Civic Type R would still be offered with optional stick shift, and would become Europe’s last non-electrified Honda.

The carmaker stresses that AWD is out of the question, so the Civic Type R will be a FWD vehicle. The engineering crew will attempt to give it enough power to set a new North Loop record.

The current-gen Civic sedan and hatchback both offer a choice between a naturally aspirated engine with 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) and a turbocharged one good for 183 PS (180 hp / 135 kW).
