Hyundai gets an electric truck ready for launch

Hyundai is preparing a battery-electric pickup for release that may rival the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T, CarBuzz reports referencing its communication with the manufacturer. The model will be based on a new design iteration of the E-GMP platform that the company has yet to create.

Once upgraded, the platform will enable broader production scaling opportunities and lend itself well to electric vehicles of all classes and sizes. The pickup truck that Hyundai plans to build on it will be a relatively simple, frameless, unibody vehicle close in its styling to the Tucson-based Santa Cruz model (shown in the gallery and the video below).

It would make sense for the still-unnamed pickup to reach the international market as a model primarily targeted towards active leisure enthusiasts, rather than workers. The launch date and the model name remain to be announced.

All in all, the Korean automaker plans to release 13 EVs on the upgraded E-GMP architecture. These will include various Hyundai- and Kia-badged SUVs and crossovers, as well as Genesis flagships. All 13 are expected to debut before 2030.
