Hyundai has posted an announcement of a next-generation Verna sedan (also known as the Accent and the Solaris) on its Indian website, promising to ship it with a new 1.5-liter turbo. According to Autocar India, the premiere should take place soon and the first deliveries could be made by the end of the spring.
The car looks substantially different on the outside with slimmed-down headlight units installed between the hood and the radiator grille, like on the latest Grandeur. The grille itself boasts an Elantra-esque 3D look. Judging by the photos, the sculpted sides are also inspired by the Elantra, while the taillights sport unusual patterns.
The Indian spec will ship with two 1.5-liter engine options to choose between, one of them completely new. Rumor has it this new engine has around 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) at the output end. Buyers will be able to choose between six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT for the transmission. The entry versions will offer a naturally aspirated engine with the same gearbox options.
There will also be four trim levels and a wide exterior palette with seven solid tones and a couple of two-tone paintjobs to choose from. Three out of these color schemes will be completely new for the Verna.
Aside from the above, Hyundai plans to raise the annual production of the saloon in the country to 70,000 units, even though only around 20,000 units are being sold in India every year.
