The British sports car maker has acquired the trademark rights for “EV-Type” – something that sounds decidedly like an electric vehicle. What could it be?
Jaguar has had intentions to expand its electrified range for a while now, having announced battery-powered versions of the XJ flagship saloon and the I-Pace SUV (a larger SUV called J-Pace). An “EV-Type” would fit right in: it has “EV” stated right in its name and obviously references the iconic E-Type. The latter fact may also mean that it will share its main styling cues with the classic coupe.
Speaking about his experience during his final days working for JLR, Jaguar ex-Design Director Ian Callum let it slip that he was drawing up blueprints of a mysterious new mid-engine vehicle. This could very well have been the “EV-Type” registered yesterday.
If we had to guess about the appearance of the car, we would say it would be designed based either on the limited-run C-X75 coupe or the Vision Gran Turismo Concept, a virtual prototype created for a video game.
If the newcomer is intended as a replacement for the current-gen F-Type, then we probably won’t be seeing it anytime soon, because the latter was refreshed not too long ago.
