Jeep will no longer equip its Wagoneer lineup with eight-cylinder engines starting in the next model year. Both the standard Wagoneer model and its upmarket Grand Wagoneer version will switch to using a 3.0-liter Hurricane V6 mill for bigger fuel savings and improved specs.
The base engine will be shared between these two modifications, but with a difference in power output. As you may remember, the current Wagoneer uses a 5.7-liter V8 rated at 397 PS (392 hp / 292 kW). Going from eight to six cylinders will bring it a superior 420 PS (415 hp / 310 kW) along with 635 Nm (468 lb-ft) of torque.
In turn, the Grand Wagoneer will trade its 6.4-liter V8 with 477 PS (470 hp / 351 kW) for a Hurricane mill tuned to deliver 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW). The torque will amount to 678 Nm (500 lb-ft). Jeep says it will both reduce fuel consumption and give the SUV class-leading towing capacities.
The Hurricane V6 is already being installed in some Wagoneer variants on the market. In the spring of 2022, Jeep unveiled long-wheelbase versions of both SUVs that had this engine listed as the default option.
