Lamborghini lets modern supercars chase the Miura in its birthday video

The legendary Lamborghini Miura, the ride believed to have introduced the market to the very definition of ‘supercar’, celebrates turning 60 this year. In a video posted by the automaker, it races alongside the Aventador successor and some other modern road racers.

For about a half of the screen time, we see the Miura outracing such classics as the Audi R8, the McLaren 720S and the Porsche 911 Turbo. Since Audi, Lambo and Porsche are all brands owned by one and the same corporation, it is hardly an issue.

The Italian marque was founded six decades ago and unveiled its mid-engined Miura model at the 1965 Turin Auto Show. The production started in the following year and continued through 1973. A total of 760 units were made, counting all the varieties.

Powered by a potent V12, the supercar had up to 385 PS (380 hp / 283 kW) at its disposal. It needed fewer than six seconds for a sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) and exceeded 270 km/h (180 mph) in a straight line, making it the fastest road-legal vehicle of its era.

Why did Lambo wrap up the production? There is no definitive answer, but a popular theory claims the company needed the industrial capacities for the new Countach model. It also came equipped with a V12, and so did all of its successors until the Aventador.
