Lamborghini says V6 engines aren’t going to be its cup of tea, now or ever

Unlike Ferrari, Lamborghini does not intend to reduce the cylinder counts in its cars even if it could simplify the transition to EVs. Per CTO Rouven Mohr, the company will never let its supercars run on V6 power, instead planning a gradual switch to all-electric power.

The Italian marque has never built a single production car with any fewer cylinders under the hood than eight, and the upcoming hybridization will not change that. After launching the Revuelto (see the gallery and the video), the company plans to release a part-electric successor to its Huracan model, as well as a petrol-electric Urus Hybrid.

Per Mohr, the Urus will keep its V8 in this new configuration. As for the Huracan descendant, it is unclear whether it will continue to use the 5.2-liter V10 or switch to something different.

In contrast with Ferrari, which is now making smaller engines to work in tandem with  electric motors, Lamborghini plans to skip that stage and go from V8+ straight into the EV territory. Until then, the company will continue putting its V8 and V12 engines into most cars, as they represent a major part of its brand image.
