Lexus LS fails the moose test

The Spanish test crew over at km.77 has put the facelifted Lexus LS 500h through an obstacle evasion and stability control trial known as the moose test. The car was supposed to pass it at 77 km/h (47.8 mph) or above, but only managed 71 km/h (44.1 mph) due to its sheer bulk and weight.

The crew kicked things off in a rather overconfident fashion, taking the sedan all the way to 78 km/h (48.5 mph). Things went very wrong very soon, however, with the car hitting multiple cones and swerving from its lane straight away. After numerous attempts, the drive finally managed to pass all the obstacles without touching a single one at 71 km/h – but only barely, and only after multiple failed attempts at that same speed.

The Euro-spec Renault Arkana passed the test at the designated speed in May. Other recent successful examples included the BMW 3 Series and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
