Radford Motors, a UK-based car company founded by Formula 1 champion Jenson Button and famous engineer Anthony ‘Ant’ Anstead, will soon be releasing the Type 62-2 Track Car Edition. The car series will be based on this year’s Pikes Peak category winner and will come out in a series of 12 units priced from U.S. $1 million.
The company’s first project, Type 62-2, debuted two years ago as a coupe based on the Lotus Evora chassis and styled to resemble the 1960s-era supercars. Lotus assisted with the project, giving the racer a number of engines rated up to 600 PS (592 hp / 443 kW).
A heavily modified Type 62-2 hit the Race to the Clouds this year, featuring a more aggressive body kit and a 3.5-liter V6 boosted to 720 PS (710 hp / 530 kW). With a curb weight under 900 kg (2,000 pounds), it could hit 96.6 km/h (60 mph) in 2.2 seconds.
Radford has now reached the decision to produce a limited batch of such cars, giving each one a larger rear wing and a massive diffusor, improved suspension, more robust subframes and a racing-spec engine.
All buyers will be getting a Sparco racing overalls and assistance from Button and Anstead as long as they decide to participate in the next Pikes Peak race themselves. The offer stands for some other motorsport events as well – for instance, the racer duo will be happy to help you with prepping your Type 62-2 for the annual hill climb race at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
