Meet Mazda CX-70, basically a CX-90 minus a few seats

Mazda has officially introduced its latest SUV, the CX-70. It will go on sale later this year and is virtually identical to its senior cousin – the CX-90, but with two seat rows instead of three.

It was originally expected that the crossover would be considerably smaller in size than the CX-90. In reality, however, it is only a few millimeters (less than an inch) shorter and has the same wheelbase of 3,119 mm (121.9 inches). New bumpers, as well as blacked-out chrome trims and radiator grille lend it a sportier appearance compared to the CX-90.

Based on the interior photos, the cabin is also largely the same. In North America, the CX-70 will be Mazda’s first vehicle to ship with Alexa voice assistant by Amazon. Since it does away with the third seat row, it also has more trunk space and even features an extra cargo compartment below floor level.

Other than that, the two models are the same in all that matters. You can choose between a 3.3-liter inline-six engine and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine assisted by an electric motor. The exact specifications are pending, but the CX-90 gets 345 PS (340 hp / 254 kW) out of the former and 327 PS (323 hp / 241 kW) out of the latter. All-wheel-drive is included as standard.
