Mazda has officially announced the end of production for the CX-8 in December this year. The three-row, seven-seat crossover SUV has only survived on the market for one generation. Right now, the company is waiting for customers to leave enough pre-orders to keep the assembly lines running until the end of 2023 – once the quota is filled, the orders will no longer be taken.
The company stays silent about the reasons for the decision, but a likely guess is that it is making room for new rear-wheel-drive SUVs in its portfolio. Perhaps this is why it also postponed the CX-70 and CX-80 launches from this year to the next one.
The Mazda CX-8 received its last refresh last November. It is currently being offered in Japan, Southeastern Asia and Australia. Buyers can choose from engine options rated at 188, 227, and 190 PS (185, 224, and 187 hp; 138, 167, and 140 kW).
