Art auction house Juliens will be selling a rear door of a 1990s-era Mazda Protégé sedan on February 15, 2024. Having once been a part of an art installation by the mysterious artist known as Banksy, it is expected to sell for U.S. $100,000–200,000.
The graffiti artist is famous worldwide for their acutely social and thought-provoking works. No one knows who they are or what they look like. It is a fact, though, that Banksy’s artworks sometimes sell for millions at auctions.
This door became a part of an installation called Crazy Horse, which appeared on an abandoned car and truck in New York City in 2013. Banksy’s graffiti over these two vehicles was dedicated to the military incident in Baghdad in the summer of 2007.
While the details surrounding the mystery artist’s works are always vague, rumors say the installation was dismantled (likely stolen) within a few days after creation. Where the rest of its constituent parts are remains unknown.
