Check out a wild Mazda RX3/RX-7 crossbreed with supercar credentials

A rotary Mazda RX-7 from the ‘90s merged with an RX-3 from the ‘70s surfaced on Bring-a-Trailer the other day, looking like a wild beast. Aside from a unique end eye-catching exterior, it ended up with a powertrain capable of 1,100 hp (820 kW) or more.

The project was carried out by Force Fed Fabricators in Texas. Working with an FD-generation RX-7 made in 1993, they grafted a whole front end from the RX-3 onto it. They also flared the front fenders quite a bit and devised a custom body kit to keep the whole together. Tubular subframes were installed to support the chassis after cutting.

Why bother mashing two Mazdas together like this? We likely won’t know, although the implication is that it was salvaged for the rebuild. Either way, the result looks like a veritable Frankenstein monster with its Chevrolet C7 Corvette suspension, Audi R8 gated shifter and Lamborghini Gallardo transaxle six-speed gearbox.

It’s every bit as crazy inside with carbon-fiber dash and door cards, Bride seats with Schrott harnesses, a Momo steering wheel and a roll bar. Climate control and audio are notably absent: this Mazdawas built for the track, not for daily driving.

And then there is the engine. The listing claims that the 2.6-liter four-cylinder mill under the hood was rebuilt in the same fashion as that of the famous Mazda 787B racecar that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991. Extreme modifications allow it to slam the crank with the aforementioned 1,100 hp (1,115 PS / 820 kW) and up to 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) of torque at 28 psi of boost pressure.

The bidding has reached an impressive $91,000, but the owner reckoned it was still not enough and backed out of the deal.
