McLaren announces a new entry in its Longtail line

McLaren Automotive will be unveiling a new entry in its high-performance Longtail range of street-legal cars. Nothing else is being revealed right now, but these spy photos let us assume the model will represent a spin-off of the 720S.

It is going to be McLaren’s sixth entry of its kind after the F1 GTR Longtail, the 675LT Coupe and Roadster, and the 600LT Coupe and Roadster. Aside from their name-giving extended rear end, all five boast enhanced aerodynamic kits, lower curb weight, and stronger engines.

The regular 720S packs a 4.0 V8 TT boosted to deliver 720 PS (710 hp, 530 kW) and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The LT version will likely be rated above 750 or 760 PS (560 – 567 kW) and sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 2.9 seconds.

The production run will be limited as usual, and if the previous Longtails are anything to go by, McLaren will have no trouble at all selling the entire batch very quickly.

The British luxury carmaker had originally intended to show the new Longtail at the Geneva Motor Show 2020, but the show was canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic. The new special event is called #McLarenMotorshow and will be dedicated to the future of the brand in general.
