Mercedes-AMG S 63 flagship spied testing

The range-topping S 63 model by Mercedes-AMG came out for a series of driving tests and was immediately spotted by camera-wielding people. Let’s see what’s new and exciting, shall we?

But first, let’s put things into context. Mercedes unveiled its new S-Class in early September, emphasizing a revised selection of engines. The luxury car will go on sale with a 2.9-liter diesel rated at 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW) and its more powerful counterpart boosted to 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW). The gasoline lineup consists of two 3.0-liter turbo options good for 367 PS (362 hp / 270 kW) and 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW), both assisted by an electric starter-generator. Finally, the gas six-cylinder will also be available as a part of a hybrid system capable of 517 PS (510 hp / 380 kW).

With this out of the way, let’s see what the AMG version brings to the table. This includes a very different-looking front clip, especially the radiator grille. The rear end stays more or less stock except for the new bumper.

The AMG S 63 will draw its power from a combination between a 4.0-liter V8 TT and an electric motor. The duo will produce 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW). An even stronger spec will arrive sometime in the future, packing 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW).
