LA-based tuning shop S-Club has spent two months and one Tesla Model 3 saloon to create a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL-Class running on electricity. You may already have seen the result at the SEMA show last year, but this is the first time the details of the build were published.
In the process of electrification, the gorgeous classic roadster lost its 3.0-liter M198 engine in favor of electric motors. We still aren’t sure how much they output, but it has to be more than the Gullwing’s standard 222 PS (219 hp / 163 kW). In fact, only the body here comes from the German car. The chassis and even the sensors and cameras come from the Tesla, and the assists apparently still work.
Open the door, and you will see a stock Tesla interior wrapped in tender light blue leather (Tiffany Blue). The exterior is pearlescent white. 18-inch wheels in the arches are custom and come wrapped in Toyo R888R tires.
According to John Sarkisyan, the owner of the shop, the project had the staff working multiple shifts per day and sometimes deep into the night. The result, however, was a zero-emission classic suitable for daily driving.
